Wind decides which Draper trees we remove. The Point of the Mountain funnels air through the valley’s south end year-round, and the bench lots above Corner Canyon and up Traverse Ridge take sustained winds that find every weak tree: shallow-rooted blue spruces heel over, overextended maple limbs snap, and brittle poplars shed until there’s nothing left worth keeping.
That makes two kinds of Draper removals. Storm response — the leaner on the roof, the uprooted spruce across the driveway — where we make it safe fast and clean it up completely. And pre-emptive removals, where an honest assessment says this tree won’t survive the exposure it lives in, and taking it down on a calm day costs half of what the emergency version will. We’re frank about which trees those are.

Tree Removal in Draper — your questions
Why do blue spruces keep failing in Draper wind?
Blue spruce roots run shallow and wide, which works fine in a sheltered yard and poorly on an exposed Draper bench. Add lawn watering that keeps roots near the surface and a dense crown that catches wind like a sail, and uprooting is a matter of time on the worst-exposed lots. Thinning extends their life; on ridge-top exposures we often recommend phased replacement with deeper-rooted species.
A tree came down across my Draper driveway in last night’s windstorm — what do I do?
If it’s touching any line, stay clear and call Rocky Mountain Power first. Otherwise call us — storm calls jump our queue, and clearing a driveway-blocking tree is usually a same-day visit. Take photos before anything is cut if you’ll file an insurance claim; we provide the written documentation insurers ask for.
